The demand for podcast shows is high on Spotify, and it makes sense for them to overhaul its structure to give the audience what they love. With this, Spotify will be up to par with other popular podcast players such as Apple Podcasts. The podcast genre will also see a substantial newer audience listening to the shows.
As of now, there will be two podcast charts that will be introduced, Trending and Top. Each of the charts will be based on different algorithms. Trending will boast 50 rising shows on the platform based on the increasing rate of listeners of a particular show, much like YouTube’s trending tab. The top will feature 200 most popular shows being listened to in the region. Yes, the Top feature will be separated by region.
The top is currently present in the app, but it is not that big at the moment. The Top feature will be revamped to include the category section. The podcasts will be categorized into business, comedy, technology, etc. The feature will be included in 26 countries, including the US, Mexico, Brazil, the UK, and Germany, with daily updating.
Spotify has been under fire for its controversial algorithms and how it doesn’t recommend songs or podcasts that you want. However, with this new feature, there are hopes to improve its algorithms too.
Like the Discover Weekly chart, the podcast chart will attract new listeners by exposing them to shows that they haven’t listened to before. This feature can give a boost to the podcast industry on Spotify.
