Mobile games have become increasingly popular and are one of
the top platforms to game on. This is enabled, particularly due to the high
performing smartphones that have the potential to run high-end mobile games on
them. With time, we are now seeing much more powerful hardware installed in
smartphones solely for gaming purposes.
The second quarter of 2020 has recorded 14 billion downloads
of mobile games, which is a huge number in just three months. Studies, and our
common sense, has proven that the increase in mobile games has been due to the
coronavirus-induced lockdown in the world. With the time people had on their
hands, the statistics have shown that people have downloaded over 35 billion
new applications with $27 billion being spent by consumers on mobile games.
Mind you, that these stats are just for the second quarter of 2020, and we
still have half a year to go.
The pandemic has visibly changed the habits of people,
whether it is shopping, consuming social media, or playing video games. It is
very hard now for the mobile gaming industry to drop back to its former state
when the world goes back to normal. The habits of people online won’t allow
this to happen. There is also a factor of more people coming to the mobile
gaming world, so it is very unlikely.
The time spent by people on their phones, laptops, or gaming
systems has also increased exponentially. Analytics has found that the average
monthly time spent on mobile applications by users has increased by 40% during
the second quarter. This means that the users have registered over 200 billion
hours on mobile applications alone.
If we talk about Google Play, the virtual store has recorded
a 10% increase in the downloads as people downloaded over 25 billion apps from
Play Store in the second quarter. Not only gaming applications but also
non-gaming applications download have been on the rise in this time. The most
popular genres of Google Play and App Store were games, tools, photos, videos,
and entertainment.
