On 30th July 2020, around 7 PM ET, Microsoft’s new Edge browser started to crash as soon as the users typed on the address bar. It was realized that the browser was crashing for only those users who had Google set as their default search engine. However, Microsoft resolved the issue in 4 hours.
The macOS and Windows users face the crashing issue. However, it is pretty unclear that why the crash happened to only those users who had selected Google as default in Edge, and as soon as the users switched the search engine to Microsoft’s Bing, there was no crashing.
Are you seeing Edge crash when trying to type into the address bar? The team is looking into it! In the meantime, as a workaround, please turn off Search Suggestions here: edge://settings/search. We'll follow up once we have more!— Microsoft Edge Dev (@MSEdgeDev) July 30, 2020
However, Microsoft suggested a temporary fix to the users, which could be done by switching off their search suggestions from the settings i.e., edge://settings/search. The Verge then looked into the matter and solved the issue permanently. After that, Microsoft recommended the users to switch back to their previous search settings as there was no further crashing.
