Instagram has started rolling out the new shop feature on
the app in attempts to make it a more prominent shopping destination. The testing
of this feature was started earlier this month and now is being launched by the
name of Instagram Shop. Facebook Pay will also be a prominent part of this new
feature.
The plans for Instagram Shop were announced last year and
confirmed earlier this year. It is being described as a place where you can
browse products from different brands and influencers on the platform can also
sell their merchandise on it. The account handle for Instagram Shop will be
@shop and you can access the Shop tab through Explore tab. The Shop tab will have
products sorted in categories for the users to easily navigate.
Instagram was already a place to shop before the Shop
feature, but with a designated tab solely meant for shopping will give a lot of
boost to Instagram’s position as an E-Commerce site. There can now be discovery
of new brands, creators and products.
Instagram Ads are nearly perfected and combining them with
shop will ensure the exposure of shopping for the users. Users’ feed will more
or less show exactly what they are looking for using the algorithms and
history.
Facebook Pay was introduced last year for secure
transactions for shopping on Facebook and other of its owned apps like WhatsApp,
Messenger and now Instagram have made the list. In addition to the purchases being
made on the platform, the US users will also be able to donate to their
chosen charity.
The feature has started rolling out today, so go ahead and
open your Instagram to find the feature and start shopping.
