At this point, the Google Play search filters were a
necessity more than a demand. For a company with a major presence in the tech
world, there search feature on Google Play is not up to par. Google is a
company based on a filter-based search down to the minute details, but this
time, the search feature is not very good.
The Google Play search filters started rolling out a few
years ago, but due to the inconsistently, they disappeared for a while – until
last May when they made a comeback with a new look and enhanced features. The
search filters are being rolled out more widely than it rolled out before.
However, the “enhanced” features don’t feel very enhanced because it is still
very inconsistent, to say the least.
When you search a term on the search bar, you will see
filters such as 4 stars, 4.5 stars, etc.
Sometimes, you will get one for
Premium, Editor’s Choice, or New apps. Other than that, the filters are of no
use as there is no depth in them. You may not see the filters every time you
search for an app. If you search for “Spotify,” you won’t see any filters, but
if you search for “Spotify utility,” you will see the filters.
There are no filters for free apps, ad-free apps, download
numbers, app size, etc. They said they are still working on this feature, but
this is just a disaster overall. You may not have to use the filters due to the
efficient search algorithms in Google Play.
Do you have the Google Play filters, and are you facing
problems with it as well? Let us know in the comments.
