Sports are universal, and you can be of any race or culture
and still play sports. In the United States of America, loads of sports are
played professionally and watched by millions of fans. Each major sport has an
organization as well. Most notably NBA for basketball, MLS for soccer, NFL for
football, NHL for hockey, and MLB for baseball.
Despite being a very sporty country, the US is also a very
diverse country as it inhabits people from almost every other country in the
world. However, that diversity is not shown in many areas of the US, including
sports. Diversity is a good prospect for any country. Having it adopted in
sports can also be a good aspect of sports teams.
The interscholastic sports industry grew by 55% between 2010
and 2017, making it a $15.3 billion market. Though, there are many sports
opportunities for immigrants in the US, and white people mostly dominate it.
The study found that the majority of the high school coaches were white, 45
teams employed black coaches, 28 teams employed Hispanic coaches, and only one
team had a coach from the Pacific Islands.
Studies have shown how diversity is beneficial, but to this
day, ethnic, cultural, and gender inequality remains an issue in the
interscholastic sports industry.
