Nintendo has disclosed that around 140,000 more accounts were breached by unusual means earlier in April. Before that, the company revealed that only 160,000 accounts were compromised and took a lot of time to recognize the gravity of the situation.
This has raised a lot of concern amidst users but Nintendo has emphasized that only 1 percent of all Nintendo user accounts were victims of the breach.
In the security breach, hackers took control over weak accounts through NNID information that is needed to purchase the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. The worst part is that these unauthorized users used the accounts saved PayPal information to make in-game purchases.
As security measures, Nintendo has reset all NNID and Nintendo account passwords that were affected and restricted Nintendo Account Log-in through NNID. The company has urged users to enable 2-step Verification as an added security measure. You can also check out Nintendo's support page that takes users through the whole process.
If you are spectacle about your account being comprised, you can check if there has been any strange login on your account by checking the 'Sign-In-History' from the 'Security Settings' page.
