The National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration (NOAA)
notes that the ocean is getting warmer every year. In fact, the annual average
temperature recorded in 2019 was 0.77 degrees Celsius – considerably higher
than the previously recorded figures.
The NOAA also says that some years happen to be hotter than
others, while some are said to be colder. However, there is a definite surge
recorded in temperature. They further said that 2016 was recorded as the
hottest year with ocean temperatures reaching 0.79 degrees Celsius higher than
the average numbers.
The data of near-surface temperatures of the ocean is taken
from ships, buoys, and satellite measurements. The NOAA says that warmer weather
is due to climate changes – and the continuing global warming will further lead
to extreme weather events in the coming years.Infographic by: Statista
