Programming and coding are brain-consuming tasks. In fact,
there are only a few activities that are more brain demanding than computer
programming.
In this regard, we came across a quite interesting Infographic
by Go-Globe
that takes a look at the eating habits of developers across the world. Here, are some of the key takeaways from the
study.
Sitting in one place
A developer’s job
requires sitting in one place – during most parts of the day. There is no physical
activity and thus – they are not able to burn calories while working on the
computer. This often leads to overeating or overindulgence in snacks and
coffee.
According to the Infographic below, an average developer
eats more than 2.5 kg of food per day, while coffee, junk food, pizzas, chips, and
soft drinks remain to be their primary choice of meal.
Caffeine – the common
fix
Caffeine remains the top ‘survival’ beverage for office
workers – especially developers. Most programmers work around 18 hours a day
and rely on coffee, tea, and energy drinks to keep their eyes open.
Weight gain
Being sedentary – and spending too much time hunching over a
computer can make it harder to maintain weight. The result - many developers complain
of weight gain and significant changes in the size of their clothing.
Are you a healthy
developer?
Interestingly, there are two breeds of developers. The health-conscious
and food junkie. As their tags imply, the healthy ones drink sufficient
glasses of water, try to get in some exercise during the work hours, and eat
smart while the junk food addict does the complete opposite.
Nevertheless, the developers need food to keep their energy
levels up and keep the mind rolling. In the Infographic below, let’s take a look
at how much food the developers need to go through the cognitive tasks of the
day – and night!
