To many, the thought of Artificial Intelligence combating
crimes – even before it occurs may seem like a scene from a sci-fi movie. However,
many countries around the world including the UK, China, Denmark, Germany,
India and the Netherlands have integrated facial recognition protocols and
predictive tools to control criminal acts.
And the advancements in technology seems to be working!
In fact, several countries around the world are reporting
lower rates of crime. Experts also say that technology can be very useful
in detecting crime before it happens – and afterward to catch the culprits.
Of course, we should remember, that just like any form of
technology – there may be some mishaps with the use of artificial intelligence
tools. For example, accuracy always remains to be a concern as facial
recognition algorithms often misidentify the subject. Especially those of color
are many times misunderstood by the software.
In a recently conducted test by Amazon’s facial recognition kit,
28 members of the Congress were identified as criminals.
Therefore, it is important to analyze the actual police
records along with the predictions from AI for complete accuracy.
In the Infographic below, let’s take a comprehensive look at
artificial intelligence and its uses in the law enforcement agencies around the
world.
