Mother’s Day is right around the corner, and whether you’re in self-quarantine or not, you don’t get a pass on skipping on gifts for mom this year. With everyone stuck inside their homes during quarantine, there’s more time this year to think about what to get your mom.

US Foods recently surveyed more than 2,000 moms across America to better understand exactly what they want from their families this Mother’s day and how their plans to celebrate with their families are being impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic sweeping the globe.

So, what did the survey results find? As it turns out, a majority of moms simply wan to spend time with family on Mother’s Day. Mom’s also enjoy sleeping in when given the opportunity. An ideal Mother’s Day would include time for mom, time with the family, and some together time watching TV and movies as well as a special dinner. If you are looking for gifts, a majority of Mom’s said they would enjoy a gift card for an experience they can enjoy after the COVID-19 pandemic has passed. Top Mother’s Day Activities

When asked about the top activities Mom’s prefer on Mother’s Day, 45% of moms said they prefer time with the family most on Mother’s Day. 15% said they would just prefer time to themselves. 40% said they would like an even mix of alone time and family time. 65% of moms said normally they would want to get out of the house on Mother’s Day. During quarantine, only 34% of moms want to get out of the house. When asked what’s most important this Mother’s Day, 48% of moms said quality time with kids and their partner. 27% said time to alone to relax and do whatever I want is most important. 13% prefer quality time with immediate and extended family. 7% said they wanted help around the house from kids and their partners. Surprisingly enough, only 5% of moms said they wanted gifts for Mother’s Day. 48% said nothing was more important than letting mom sleep in.

Connecting with loved ones on Mother’s Day

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, many mothers will miss seeing family, friends, and special people in their lives because of the quarantine. In fact, 75% of mothers say there’s someone they won’t be able to hug this year because of quarantine. 48% of mothers said they plan on connecting by phone or video chat this year because they can’t see them in person. 27% said they would still see people in-person, but only at a safe distance. 25% of moms said they would still see people in person and up close. This just goes to show you that not even social distancing can stop a mother’s love.

Food choices on Mother’s Day

US Foods asked mothers about their top meal choices on Mother’s Day. When asked about which meal they would like to be most specially considered this Mother’s Day, 48% of moms said that dinner was the most important meal to them. 53% of moms said they preferred takeout or delivery from a favorite restaurant the most this Mother’s Day. 39% of moms said they prefer a home-cooked meal the most. Only 8% of moms said they wanted a gift card to enjoy a new restaurant at a late date. 72% of moms said they preferred breakfast in bed overeating at a table. When asked about how the food is when your kids cook on Mother’s Day, 40% of moms said not bad and 33% said great. Only 27% said the food wasn’t good.

Top gifts choices for Mom

Now comes the important section of the gifts. While only 5% of moms said they actually wanted gifts, they did give us a top list of gift ideas if you decide to buy them a gift this year. Listed below are the top gift options to consider for Mother’s Day this year:

1. Gift card for an experience to be used after COVID-19 (30%)
2. Food or drink (20%)
3. Flowers or plants (18%)
4. Jewelry (16%)
5. Clothes or accessories (11%) 6. Other (5%)

The things mom would like to eliminate most on Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is all about giving mom what she wants and besides gifts, we can also think about things we can take off mom’s plate so that she has a more relaxing and enjoyable day. US Foods asked 2,000 moms about the top 3 things to eliminate on Mother’s Day if given the choice. Not surprisingly, 73% of moms said they would eliminate having to clean if given the choice for Mother’s Day. 62% of moms said they would eliminate cooking and have someone else in the house cook, if even just for Mother’s Day. 59% of respondents said they would eliminate fights between members of the family or crying. 44% of moms said they would eliminate having to do laundry during Mother’s Day. 25% of moms said they would eliminate having to answer questions, even just for one day. 24% of moms said they would eliminate having to find things that others lost in the home. Lastly, 14% of moms said they would eliminate helping with homework.
