COVID-19 is spreading around the world at an alarming rate. In order to stop this spread, companies and organizations are already partnering up to make the most of new tech and data science to fight the virus. Facebook, Twitter, Microsoft, and other tech giants have teamed up with the WHO to host a coronavirus ‘hackathon’ - trying to get people around the world to help develop tools to help track the spread of COVID-19. The problem is not a lack of data about COVID-19, the challenge is in separating useful data from it all. Knowing how hard COVID-19 has hit an area, risk factors, how COVID-19 is spreading, and what societal and environmental influences are changing that spread are all things that we need to know. Predictive models can’t just be from general data - small areas may have larger impacts on other areas or have their own specific nuances that can be helpful or detrimental to stopping the spread of COVID-19.
