Events, conferences, and conventions attract thousands of attendees - creating a $1.5 trillion global event industry. But COVID-19 has caused events to either close down or move online. Concerns related to COVID-19 and other issues have started a downtrend in conventions. Health concerns have caused Facebook to cancel its annual F8 tech conference amid COVID-19 fears and Twitter has shut down all non-essential travel for its workers indefinitely, including preventing CEO Jack Dorsey from attending SXSW, an event that was also later cancelled. Even the CDC’s own annual conference has been cancelled due to worries about COVID-19. With so many concerned about health and safety, data security has been overlooked. Hackers can also use COVID-19 to prey upon the fear that COVID-19 has brought to naive users.
