Several reports suggest that the COVID-19 pandemic is
leaving a deadly impact on senior care homes all over the world. In fact, a recent
report published by the research team at the London School of Economics
concludes that 60% of deaths in some countries are linked with these
facilities.
The research notes that international comparison for these
cases is challenging since most countries are not tracking the specific cases. However,
the survey of selected countries shows that 64% of deaths in Norway are linked to
care home facilities for the elderly.
Similarly, Canada and Ireland also saw 57% and 55% of deaths
in senior care homes respectively.
The World Health Organization has also established that the elderly
members of our society are the most vulnerable to coronavirus. Especially those
who are already suffering from pre-existing medical conditions were asked to
take extra precautions.
However, senior care facilities usually have communal dining
rooms and sleeping areas that can cause a rapid spread of the virus.
