COVID-19 lockdowns have had some significant impacts, one of which includes the effects of social restrictions on the mental health of young adults. We have all heard the phrase 'man is a social animal' and it is true but young adults are at the stage of discovering themselves and so they need to have different experiences and social connections. And while they can keep themselves engaged with their peers via social media apps it is not the same.
As an effort to curb the potential effect on their mental health, Netflix and Instagram have teamed up to release a new self-care series for young adults called "Wanna Talk About It". The series will include stars of some popular Netflix shows who will talk about mental health.
Instagram has a huge number of young users and Netflix stands on the top as the most famous video streaming platform among teenagers.Netflix & Instagram have partnered on Wanna Talk About It?, a live series where every week one star (Lana Condor, Joey King, Alisha Boe, Caleb McLaughlin, Jerry Harris, Ross Butler, Noah Centineo) talks with a mental health expert about self care during a global pandemic. pic.twitter.com/nmYjXnBjfE— Netflix (@netflix) April 8, 2020
Instagram has been making efforts to make the platform safer for young adults in regards to their mental health, like hiding the total like count and restricting highly edited photos. It had also introduced the 'Restrict' option on the app which allows users to have more control over who they interact while also highlighting offensive comments and captions.
This partnership can strengthen Instagram's brand perception among the younger audience, but apart from the brand strategy, it is an initiative worth praising.
Netflix users can watch these series every Thursday till May 14th.
