All of us have that one favorite movie that we can watch over
and over again without getting tired. For some, it’s a sci-fi thriller like ‘The
Inception,’ while comedy lovers get a good laugh every time they watch ‘Monty
Python and the Holy Grail.’
Check out the list of top movies below. And let us know
which movie you are watching in the quarantine days?
But when it comes to movies from the romantic-comedy genre, ‘Pretty
Woman’ continues to survive the test of time and remains the highest
international grossing rom-com of all-time. Released on March 23, 1990, the
film completes its 30 years in 2020. Starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere in
pivotal roles, the movie went out to accumulated nearly half a billion dollars
worldwide in box office sales.
The movie also did pretty well in America by raking in $178
million in the domestic box office. And this is a huge achievement as the reported
budget of the film was only $14 million.
According to the statistic below, the next closest movie is ‘Sex
and the City: The Movie.’ Released in 2008, the movie was a sequel to HBO
comedy-drama series and garnered over $415 million globally. Other movies
included in the list are ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding’, ‘What Women Want’, ‘There
is something about Mary’, and ‘The Proposal.’
The list also indicates that the genre of rom-com films was
very popular during the 90s and early 2000. However, it has fallen since then
with only a few movies of the genre making a respectable income in the cinemas. In fact, the
only recently released movie to reach the top-grossing movie list is the ‘Crazy
Rich Asians.’ Released in 2018, the movie earned 238.5 million in global sales.
