Instagram is Testing a New Disappearing Message Feature

Earlier Instagram has announced that it is working on a new Disappearing Message option which will be added to the Direct tools in the app.

Instagram is Testing a New Disappearing Message Feature

The new feature was discovered in testing by Jane Manchun Wong, a reverse engineering professional. For now, all your messages will be disappeared from the chat window after you move to another section of the Insta app.

WhatsApp has also been reportedly testing the same feature but it is also noted that the app will provide added control elements which we do not see in the current iteration for Instagram.

Since Facebook announced that it will be connecting all it's messaging apps that include messenger, Insta direct and WhatsApp it is interesting to see that both WhatsApp and Insta are working on the same option.

Facebook announced the merger last year and WhatsApp must have already been aware that whatever they bring to the app will have to be integrated with Insta Direct as well as Messenger. Although WhatsApp version of the disappearing message feature seems to be more advanced than that of Instagram, it is expected that it will soon follow suit.

You will soon have the feature available to you and you are likely to see it on all Facebook owned apps that have messaging feature. This option, if it comes with more controls, would potentially give brands more ways for outreach and promotion.

But it is important to note that regulatory bodies might have a problem with Facebook's disappearing message option. WhatsApp has been facing a lot of pressure related to its end to end encryption option and Facebook too raised many concerns regarding the merger. But regardless of all of this, Facebook will bring out the option.

Since the announcement has already been by Instagram, it won't be long before you see the option on the app.
