TikTok has been the topic of debate for many in the social media marketing circle.
TikTok has been making a lot of effort to stay relevant in the social media world and is seeking to solidify what it has to offer while working on growing its ad potential.
Now the video app is reportedly working on upgrading its profile design to one that looks similar to that of Instagram.
A journalist from the New York Times tweeted about the layout and you can see how it has an Instagram like appearance.
Given that Instagram is more popular I'm terms of user count to TikTok, aligning with its format seems fair. However, it isn't known yet when this new look would be released or if it even will be released.Looks like TikTok is redesigning user profiles to look almost exactly like Instagram (new design vs old) pic.twitter.com/uQAHPwaZoh— Taylor Lorenz (@TaylorLorenz) February 3, 2020
Currently, TikTok is struggling with its content policies as questions have been raised about the involvement of the Chinese Government in TikTok's content moderation approach. In 2019, TikTok appeared to have reduced the reach of content uploaded by people with disabilities, which seems like a confusing attempt to restrict cyberbullying.
Many popular TikTok users have also shown angst with content takedowns for no apparent reason. Others have also said that they have been forced to alter their content approach to fit into the platform's good books.
This should be a cause of concern for TikTok as right now it is the phase of growing itself and needs popular creators to stick with it.
Although the platform remains prominent, it would be interesting to see if it can hold its position with the rise of its competitors and other challenges that it faces. We will have to wait to find out.
