America is a hurricane-active region in recent years, and has seen several destructive hurricanes. Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico's United States territory in 2017, taking the lives of more than 2,900 local people. The storm killed the island's power supply and wrecked thousands of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.
