Stop Obsessing Over Your Mistakes

Making mistakes while working is a pretty typical human trait. We all are continually struggling, striving to be a better version of ourselves. In the process, if one does something other than what they were supposed to do or what was required, we should let it go. Breathe. It is perfectly alright.

No matter how many times learning your mistake is endorsed, human beings have this habit of obsessing over their mistakes which stops them from getting over them. Overthinking is the main reason why one fails to get over their mistakes. We keep cooking things up in their head which are totally fictitious and might not even exist in reality. Furthermore, once one has gone through a bad experience, it is harder to get over bad experiences than the good ones. Also, if one fails to complete a task, they retain that terrible experience more than the times they had completed their numerous responsibilities.

These habits die hard and can cause many health-related problems. These problems cannot only be psychological, but physical as well. People have been seen to show behavioral changes too. Many people, in the long run, suffer from eating disorders, depression, and later in life can get heart diseases also.
Right now, if you are obsessing over some mistake, it is time that you do a quick breathing exercise and calm yourself down. Breathe in and hold your breath for a count up to three and then exhale deeply. After a three second break, again inhale, hold your breath for three seconds and then breathe out. Continue this for one minute and make sure while you do this, your hand is on your navel. Another thing that you should definitely try is calling one’s close family member or friend. Talk to them, have a quick rant moment and let all your feelings out. Distract yourself from the mistake by making yourself a hot drink or going for a quick walk. Let go of thoughts like you are not good enough or you are a failure or everyone else is talking about you. It has been reported that being pessimistic about your own self can be a hindrance to your success. Also, one needs to let go of the thought that everyone is talking about them as people have a tendency to talk about themselves for sixty percent of the conversation they have with someone.

Hence, in the future, if you ever make a mistake, you need to take that as a learning opportunity for yourself. You need to stop being so critical about your mistakes and build up your self-esteem. Also, you should note down situations that trigger your overthinking. These habits are the little milestones which, if you achieve, can help you become a stronger individual who knows how to control themselves and own their mistakes.
