If you've never seen or heard of poké, you're in for a gourmet treat. This good, fresh fish dish comes from Hawaii, where it has been popular for decades (in local gas stations and surf shops you can even find it). We have seen a 76 per cent increase in poké meal deliveries since 2016 since the beginning of 2017. ZeroCater has added even more poké partners, including Island Grinds Catering, Bamboo Asia, Pokeworks, and Hokey Poke, because of this big uptick.
Now that this dish is gaining popularity on the mainland, we're here to help you understand what is poké, what it's usually served with and how to order it. If you're in sushi, you'll find common flavors in typical poké –like raw tuna or salmon.
You will find variations made from tofu or other cooked proteins if raw fish is not your thing. While the easiest form of poké is fish without any other ingredients in a cup, continental shops get inventive with burritos, rice bowls, salads and more. Read on for more detail on this balanced, delicious Hawaiian soup.
