With the amount of jobs available decreasing and daily commutes increasing, many Americans are becoming fatigued by all of the extra driving time needed to get to work. The nationwide average commute is 26 minutes, which adds an extra hour to an already long work day. Wouldn’t a 10 minute commute be the dream?
It is possible, but you’ll most likely have to move to a major metropolitan area to make it a reality. This infographic shares the results of a study that analyzed the number of jobs reachable by foot or mass transit in 10 minutes, in 49 of the largest metropolitan areas in the United States.
It even compares the number of jobs that are reachable in 20-60 minutes as well, to get a better idea of the number of jobs that are easily available to residents in each of the metro areas. It’s no surprise that New York City residents, 30% of which make use of the city’s mass transit system, have the most jobs available in the shortest commute times.
