I once had a chemistry teacher when I was in high school who told us, "If you can cook, then you can do chemistry." I remember finding this very strange, since I didn't know how to cook and most of my attempts were met with little in the way of success. I am pretty sure I wasn't alone in that way in the 10th grade.
Quick into adult life, and I can't say I feel that much more comfortable in the kitchen. In fact, I still feel like that kid in chemistry class in many ways. It's amazing to watch the changes taking place as I cook in my pots and pans, but my comprehension of what I'm doing is still pretty sophisticated. As my lab experiments many of my kitchen experiments fail.
