Relying on what’s done in the movies can only take you so far. If you’ve ever tried the spy-trick using a magnet to wipe your phone data, you should know it doesn’t work. Magnets can wipe data from magnetically recorded media, data along the likes of tapes and floppy disks; however, newer devices do not use magnetic fields to record data. Magnets can, however, do permanent damage to your phone such as decalibrate your phone’s compass - which uses magnetic fields to navigate.
Similar to this, screen protectors do not “prevent scratches.” In fact, there’s a high chance your phone display is made of Gorilla Glass, which couldn’t even be scratched with the average knife. Although screen protectors will be scratched before your display will be, screen protectors are much less durable than the glass they’re meant to protect.
