Snapchat always has something new in store for its users and now it is about to introduce its 'Snapchat Scan' ad option through which users can unlock a logo of a brand and have a distinct AR experience.
According to AdWeek, initially, Coca Cola and McDonalds will get to try out the new feature. Snapchat users can scan the brand logos, which would be recognized by the app and give users an immersive and fun experience.
Snapchat is being hailed for this new feature. However, the social media platform has been trying to make this happen for quite some time while bringing in similar products.
Its spectacles product is an example, back in 2016 snapchat users could scan the
spectacles logo and unlock a special filter.
In 2015, Snapchat gave a summary of the possibilities of such an option.
"For example, a photograph including an object recognized as a restaurant may result in the user being presented with photo filters that overlay a menu of the restaurant on the photograph. Or a photograph including an object recognized as a food type may result in the user being presented with photo filters that let the user view information e.g., calories, fat content, cost or other information associated with the food type."
We know that Snapchat has been working on this for quite some time now but we cannot be sure why it took Snapchat so long to launch this option. But regardless of a lot of work that still needs to be done, Snapchat has surely set itself on a road to make it big using the latest technology.
