Science fiction is by far one of the most popular genre’s of entertainment on the planet. Science fiction extends from books and movies to TV and comic books. Science fiction in the arts is widely believed to have begun around 1620 with Johannes Kepler’s novel, Somnium. There are probably a ton of opinions on the matter of when the genre of science fiction started but Jon Guttman gives a decent explanation of why Somnium fits the bill of being the first.
