Every year 14th of June is celebrated as World Blood Donor Day by the WHO (World Health Organisation). The world blood donor day was established in the year 2004 with a view to raise awareness about the need for safe blood donation & to thank all blood donors for their voluntary, life-saving gifts of blood donation.
The World Blood Donor Day is celebrated every year on the birth anniversary of Karl Landsteiner on 14 June in 1868. He was an Austrian and American biologist and physician who won the Nobel Prize for his discovery of the ABO blood group system.
