Americans hate cooking but love eating, which poses a problem. More than 1 out of every 4 Americans don’t know how to cook, and Americans, for the first time ever, have been spending more on restaurants than on groceries; around $5 billion more. So save money by learning to cook at home. In any kitchen, safety is key.
Learn some basics on how to keep food safe. Make sure all tools, surfaces and hands are clean before handling food, and make sure they’re clean afterwards as well. Food should be fully cooked all the way through; not just on the outside so check in different areas if your food is ready.
Always return food to the fridge within 2 hours of cooking and refrigerate raw meats when marinating. Be vigilant in keeping meat and eggs separate in the fridge, cart, and bags.
