The revenue that cities earn from parking tickets is meant to fund transportation projects and fix crumbling infrastructure. But with some cities in the United States starting to privatize their parking meters, will that revenue continue to benefit the public? This infographic from TopViewNYC.com ranks twenty five major U.S. cities on how much they make in parking ticket revenue per capita.
Chicago is one of the cities that has begun privatizing their parking meters, and having the most expensive meters in the nation shows with a top ranking revenue of $97.20 per capita. On the other end of the spectrum is Phoenix, AZ which has more than enough parking spaces for travelers and the city only earns $0.55 in revenue for each of its citizens.
When you think parking nightmare though, you may think of New York City. But the Big Apple’s many car-less residents helped keep the revenue costs per capita slightly lower at $63.20. How much in revenue does your city make from parking tickets?
