Every year, trillions of dollars of goods are shipped around the world. What exactly are we moving about? We’ve examined the top imports and exports to find interesting consumer data. We found the most valuable items, from cars to diamonds, and, more importantly, which countries are shipping and receiving them. By breaking down exports and imports by value rather than weight, we see which items from abroad we’re most likely to spend money on.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the top two exports are cars and refined petroleum. The U.S. loves to import cars ($173 billion worth of them), while Germany is the top exporter. Americans love Mercedes-Benz, it seems! Next, for petroleum, the U.S. is the top exporter and importer. Petroleum takes up 3% of all the world’s exports. Further along the list is a range of items relating to computers (such as wiring, circuits, telephones, and broadcast equipment), pharmaceuticals, gold, diamonds, and jewelry. Then, we also have aircraft, trucks, and medical instruments.
See which countries are the top producers and which ones are the top buyers of the world’s most important goods!
