2016 was a wild ride. Lots happened, that is for sure. But what do the numbers say? We analyzed Foursquare City Guide and Foursquare Swarm data—including visits, check-ins, tips, mentions, taste affinities, and ratings—to recap the zaniest of food and drink trends, the major changes in travel patterns, and the times in which foot traffic spoke for itself.
Some highlights? Filipino and Mediterranean were the cuisines to try, tourism spiked to Cuba after Obama eased travel restrictions, Americans obsessed over frozen delights (rolled ice cream and frosé, to be specific), and Trump-branded properties saw a drop in visits over the course of his campaign. That’s it for 2016, but hey—we have a lot to look forward to in 2017. Noodles, anyone?
