One thing we have to be on top on is expiration dates. Supermarkets now use a number of different indicators from sell by dates to use by dates, all of which have slightly different meanings.
This can vary massively, with some things lasting a very long time in the fridge, while others can only last a couple of days before it should be frozen or eaten.
