According to comScore’s most recent study, 57% of the time U.S. consumers spend online is done through smartphones, and that the majority of digital media consumption happens through smartphone apps. 50% of digital media is consumed via apps and 7% is consumed through smartphone web browsers. The shocking statistic is that 80% of the time spent within smartphone apps is spent in either Facebook, YouTube, or Facebook Messenger. The top five apps that smartphone users spend most of their time are owned by Facebook and Google.
Another study conducted by Pew Research Center found that the more devices people own, the more they go online. It was reported that 68% of Americans at least own a smartphone. 66% own two devices (smartphone, desktop or laptop, or tablet), and 36% own all three. Of the U.S. consumers owning only one device, 60% only have desktop or laptop, 34% only have a smartphone, and 7% only have a tablet.
