Beards are very popular in men’s fashion and have been for the past year or so. Today it seems like more men then not a rocking a beard. However, beards haven’t always been popular or a good sign for men throughout history. Advanced Dermatology decided they wanted to take a deeper look and beards over time to see how they have went from being a sign of wealth and prosperity, to a sign of weakness, to a major fashion trend.
The intent of the graphic was to look beyond beards immediate function as a fashion accessories and look into some of the more popular uses of beards in the past. Some ancient cultures have viewed beards as a sign of high status in society since as the ancient Mesopotamians. Ancient Greeks also viewed beards as a strong status symbol for men.
