American athletes often dominate the Olympics leader boards, with the likes of Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte being some of the most memorable names in recent games. It’ll then probably come as no surprise that the USA have the most medals all of the nations that compete in the modern Olympic games, with an impressive 2,403 medals to date.
BullionVault’s new infographic uncovers the monetary value of each nation’s medal haul, looking at the total worth of their gold, silver and bronze medals. As you’d imagine, the total value of the USA’s medals is rather staggering, at $620,588. This is almost three times the value of 2nd ranking Russia’s total medals.
With the Olympics just around the corner it’ll be interesting to see which countries add to their total haul, and whether anyone can vaguely catch up with the USA!
