Most of the famous novels we know didn’t end up with the same title that they started off with. For example, did you know that ‘The Great Gatsby’ was originally called ‘Trimalchio in West Egg’ or that ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ was originally titled ‘Atticus’? We didn’t either and so we decided to investigate further.

Many of the titles were changed because the publishers didn’t like the title as much as the author. However, some novels such as ‘Pride and Prejudice’ which was originally called ‘First Impressions’ were changed because other novels were published with the same title around the same time.
