Carbon emissions are some of the most common – and most harmful – greenhouse gas emissions. In 2014, carbon dioxide made up 80% of all greenhouse gases emitted from human activities. In the United States, it took us some time to become conscious of the impact that greenhouse gases have on the environment. Between 1990 and 2005, for example, carbon emissions spiked sharply. But after that, from 2005 to the present day, those emission levels started to fall. You can see this trend and others on the following infographic.
You can look at every state and see what their carbon emission levels were between 1990 and 2013 in five year intervals. We've also put together a quick top ten list of the highest and lowest emission levels by state. Vermont and Rhode Island have consistently put out low emission levels, while Texas and California have some of the highest. What other trends can you see in this data?
