There are probably quite a few things we overlook in life, and don’t give much thought to them. That’s why, here at Fly Abu Dhabi, we got curious about finding out what place names around the world actually mean. It’s one of those things where you often discuss countries you’re going to explore, or cities that you’re going to travel to, but seldom do people actually wonder what Brussels really means, or how Amsterdam got its name.

Our latest infographic tells you all about the meaning behind place names all over the world, from cities in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. For example, did you know that ‘Hong Kong’ actually means ‘fragrant harbour’ or that ‘Florence’ derives from the Latin meaning ‘to flower’?
