It covers where the most holiday homes are as well as that 25% of the owners are retired. Interestingly, Gwynedd in Wales has the most holiday homes in the UK and 8000 people own a 2nd property there too. This might be because Gwynedd has a wealth of attractions that build upon culture such as mountain ranges and beaches. The coastal attractions also make it increasingly popular.

It’s important to remember that if you do own a holiday home you still need to protect it in the same way you would with your permanent residence. Standard home insurance cover isn’t enough if you leave the property empty for more than 30 days a year. A good policy includes public liability insurance and also cover the home when it is empty.
