While ‘tis the season to be jolly, everyone knows that crime unfortunately still exists. In particular theft increases during Christmas period. Some people will leave their homes for a few days to visit friends or family which can leave your property and newly bought Christmas presents vulnerable to theft. This can be an overwhelming experience, especially for those with small children. There are many ways that homeowners protect their homes but which safety precautions actually work? To get behind the perspective of a criminal, we interviewed 25 former burglars with help from Unlock - a charity that supports those with criminal convictions rebuilding their lives. We managed to get their opinions on which are the best methods theft deterrents to protect your home and which aren’t effective at preventing theft.
