Taking selfies are amongst the popular trends of today and because large numbers of people are now engaging in this trend, a study was conducted to find out which generation engages the most in this trend. It was found that Millennial’s (those who were born in the 80’s and early 2000’s) engage the most in taking pictures of themselves in comparison to every other generation of today.
A study also reported that 1 million selfies are uploaded onto social media websites daily. Out of the various sites and apps where selfies are uploaded the most popular was found to be Facebook which is then followed by WhatsApp, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and Pinterest, all of which are popular social media sites and apps where selfies are uploaded by users. .
When it comes to companies and brands, Samsung, Pizza Hut, National Geographic, WWF and NASA are some which have incorporated this trend of taking selfies into their ad campaigns as well which has allowed them to be more in tune with the latest generation and to interact with them on social media.
Despite the popularity of selfies, they can be good and bad both. While they can help individuals in boosting their self confidence and allowing them to be expressive in various fun and unique ways, they may encourage people to focus too much on their looks and a lot of people who take selfies have been criticized for doing so thus taking selfies may also result in a lot of criticism.
