Thanksgiving started back in 1621 when the Plymouth settlers and the Wampanoag Indians had a fall harvest feast. Pilgrims coming from England in the 1600’s held on to many traditions from the mother country and this particular celebration was because of a good harvest year. It was not their intention to start a yearly festival, this came later on as political figures were all giving thanks to God for events that helped their cause. Thanksgiving finally became a yearly holiday when president Lincoln wrote a proclamation making it fact.
