A recent survey carried out by the UK's Asbestos Advice Helpline has revealed the shocking statistic that 7 out of 10 adults in the 'at risk' age group can not name a single symptom of mesothelioma, a deadly and aggressive form of cancer most commonly caused by exposure to asbestos, a material previously used widely in construction before its ban in 1999.
The fact that a staggering 7 in 10 are unable to name a single symptom showcases the urgent need for charities, the NHS and support groups to bring this deadly form of cancer to the public eye, helping those deemed to be at risk to know their symptoms. Whilst the symptoms of mesothelioma commonly crossover with those for other respiratory conditions, an early diagnosis usually means a better prognosis and, as such, it's important that medical advice is sought upon even a slight suspicion of symptoms of the disease.
In order to do their bit and showcase the symptoms, Asbestos Advice Helpline have put together this handy infographic which looks in a little more depth at the symptoms of mesothelioma.
