Travelling to new countries can provide us with some really interesting insight into the way people lead their lives in different parts of the globe. We get a feel for the kind of food they eat, their hobbies, fashion, architecture and the types of houses they live in. Depending on where you are in the world, the design of a typical home varies due to differences in culture, population and the size of the country itself. This also has some effect on the average house size in each country, for example, cities are more cramped, meaning there is more demand for housing, therefore resulting in a smaller average house size.
So would you be able to estimate the average house size in different countries around the world? From our research, we found that homes in the UK are actually smaller than all the other house sizes in Europe. The differences here may not be so shocking however, for example Hong Kong has it much worse. To put it into perspective, you can actually fit over 22 Hong Kong houses into 1 Australian house, showing how extreme some of these differences are! So depending where you are in the world, space can either be the standard or a luxury. This infographic will give a brief overview of average house sizes, as well as a few comparisons around the countries that have the smallest (and largest) homes in the world.
