You're Being Watched: When Surveillance Goes Too Far
Government surveillance on private citizens is a tricky topic, especially because not all of the facts are known to us. But what we do know is that the NSA was formed sometime in the early 1950s (possibly earlier) and was first disclosed to the public in 1971 by Perry Fellwock. He was the first in a long string of whistleblowers and truth-tellers that ends with Edward Snowden. Despite repeated attempts to reign in the power of the NSA and its arms, it has been repeatedly proven that they overstep their boundaries and have a ruthless drive to acquire information. This is the organization that causes us to ask, “What does privacy mean in the modern age?” Besides the NSA, how much do you know about Five Eyes, or PRISM? These important projects prove that government spying goes beyond the United States. It's an international issue that we must all grapple with. This infographic aims to provide a basic introduction to some terms and history behind state surveillance.
