In many ways, allergies are similar to a horror movie monster or virus. They sneak among us unseen, attacking when we are most vulnerable, and leave us devastated in their wake. We combat them with science, and sometimes we are victorious...but inevitably, like body-snatchers, they return and take their place among our ranks. Waiting. And watching. Allergies are on the rise in America – and that includes allergies to food, animal dander, drugs, and pollen.

To understand why, first we must understand how allergies work. Then we can explore how they spread and their impact. Did you know, for example, that if you are allergic to something you have a 33% chance of passing your allergy on to your children? And if your spouse is also allergic to that same thing, your chances increase to 70%!
