Remember the Nokia 3310? Practically indestructible, 3 charges a year, comes complete with Snake and 10 saved messages? Nothing shook the world phone design as much until Apple unveiled the iPhone in 2007, which has set the standard for all smartphones today.
But what happened in between? A lot of trial, error, experimentation and phone design horrors. During the boom of the mobile phone era it seemed that, just like other creative industries have done, experimenting with flamboyant and hideous designs in order to outdo another equally hideous design was all the rage.
Some of the worst offenders for strange designs were the hugely popular Nokia and Samsung. Unfortunately for Samsung, one of their designs that was intended to look innovative and futuristic, ended up resembling a toilet seat, while the Nokia 7600 became one of the smallest 3g phones ever made, and not in a good way.
