It’s surprising to see that among kids who are injured or killed on roads worldwide per year, 38% are pedestrians. This can be attributed to the lack of road safety measures in place sidewalks such as barriers and street lamps. Kids who are travelling in a car make up another 36% of the total fatalities, with most of these children coming from high-income countries.

Regardless of a country’s economic status, driving safely could highly reduce these numbers. Drivers must keep in mind that roads are not solely consisted of vehicles. Roads are shared by pedestrians, who are much more prone to danger when incidents happen.

Controlling a vehicle’s speed is one of the most basic measures to drive safely.
