There was a time when only Apple knew how to design beautiful products that consumers paid top dollar for. Google and Microsoft were focused on the best back-end engineering while Apple's stock and valuation skyrocketed for the past decade. We can't blame Microsoft and Google for wanting to catch up - and fast. Google recently released their Material Design over the past few years and had their first design conference in 2014. Microsoft started with their Metro design philosophy, and have since upgraded it to Microsoft UI - no more metro. All three of these tech giants know that they have to design for the future. They're building out their designs to work seamlessly across a variety of devices, and for new ones not even released.
This infographic takes a look at what defines each of these brands individually, what their design philosophy means to them, and how they've executed it. It also takes a look at the similarities of these design philosophies and the ultimate purpose. What we know for sure is that better design is good news for everyone.
