Car safety has been a pressing issue to the general public and the automotive industry for nearly one hundred fifty years. The very first automobiles could be described as "death traps" as occupants would be in a large amount of danger in the event of an accident. As time went on, more and more safety features were introduced, and today, many companies are working towards fully automoted and injury-proof cars.

This infographic, introduced by the wonderful design team at Titlemax, explores the entire history of safety features, laws and facts in the automotive industry. Did you know that auto makers fought the introduction of seat belts? Did you know there was a campaign to smear the reputation of seatbelts that attempted to prove that they were more dangerous than not wearing one at all? A lot has happened during the history of the car and we still have a way to go but rest easy knowing cars are safer today than they have ever been!
